Amish Friendship Bread
2 one-pound loaves

Qty Size Ingredient
Starter
1 cup AP Flour
¼ cup Water (110º)
1 cup Whole Milk (110º)
1 cup White Sugar
1 pk Fleischmann's Active Dry Yeast
 
Bread
3 lg Eggs
2 cups AP Flour
1 cup Canola Oil
1 cup Whole Milk (room temp)
1 cup White Sugar
1 lg Instant Vanilla Pudding (~5oz)
2 tsp Powdered Cinnamon
tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract (double strength)
½ tsp Baking Soda
½ tsp Kosher Salt


The Starter:
  • Day 1: Mix Starter ingredients.  Squish-squash-mush the bag.  Make sure the bag is dated!
  • Day 2: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 3: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 4: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 5: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 6: Add to the bag 1 C. flour, 1 C. sugar, 1 C. milk.  Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 7: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 8: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 9: Squish-squash-mush the bag
  • Day 10: BAKING DAY!
Pour entire remaining contents of your original bag into large mixing bowl and add: 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk.  Measure out 1 cup each into 4 separate one gallon Ziplock bags.  Keep one for yourself and give the other 3 to friends along with a copy of this recipe.

The Bread

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and cinnimon and set aside.

Grease or butter two 5x10 loaf pans.  Dust the greased pans with half the cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Pour batter evenly into the pans and sprinkle the top with remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Bake for 1 hour.  Cool until bread loosens from sides of pan and turn out.

Searve hot or cold or room temperature.

Enjoy.


If a bag isn't passed on to a friend on the 10th day, be certain to tell the recipient which day the bag is at when you give it to them.
